Hey all, I think for us to be successful at what we're trying to accomplish, everyone needs to be fully prepared and that includes gear. Many of the pieces listed in this section are a necessity if you are playing the job and should be gotten asap. I've come to notice that some people frequent on these forums but haven't really delved into ffxiah.com for their info. With this in mind I wanted the people who are most experienced on their jobs to list gear selections that are top priority for that respective job and the LS to focus on getting those pieces and people helping each other obtain them when able. This is more so intended to be a briefer non-troll infested guide to each job and how to gear them. I may sort this out to a thread for each job, but we'll start here for now. I'll go ahead and start off with the jobs I know best.
Must haves:
Healing jobs
Whm:
Orison pantaloons +2 - Healing magic casting time -12% Converts 5% of "Cure" amount to MP. This is too beastly, if I had to choose only 1 piece of gear for Whm I would choose these, the mp gain from your cures with these on is too epic to ever overlook.
Orison bliaud +2 - The stoneskin bonus from your cures essentially makes it so anytime you're topping off someone on a cure your mp is almost never wasted. You should be finishing your casts in this. If you have any questions on how to setup precast and midcast gear on Whm let me know.
Orison Cap +2 - Really the only reason this is useful now is for bar-spells when you put them up and -Na spells for the possible aoe effect from divine veil but that 10% chance at aoe-ing a -Na spell is well worth it.
Orison Duckbills +2 - No not for auspice, no one really cares much about that these days. For the enhancing magic boost. As a base, all boost-stat spells start at +5 to that stat which is meh at first glance. But as you stack enhancing gear onto these, if you get enhancing up to 500 (not too hard on whm at all) those boost spells at +25 per stat. Add that into having 3 dds in your pt and you're talking about a very nice boost in dmg which can make the difference in fights. Not too mention the boost to bar-spells
Serpentes set - Idle refresh set
Nares trews - Many don't have this yet, get this asap for idle refresh.
Beneficus - Awesome enhancing magic boost and barspell enhancement.
Cleric's Pantaloons +2 - Same reason as beneficus plus the augment enhances Shellvra V for even more -mdt!
Sidenotes: The above gear is what you should definitely be aiming for before jumping onto Whm for runs. We really could use a good extra Whm so keep that in mind. Sub Sch and keep sublimation up full time. Cap your cure potency out (50% cap) as this will make you spend a lot less mp. Build a Fast cast set and a good refresh idle set, serpentes hands and feet, nares trews from nni, Wotg earring if you have it and nefer set bonus if you have heka's kalasiris. Stack haste and fast cast gear as much as possible when casting any -Na spell or buff spell that isn't enhanced by enhancing magic (ie Haste). Doing the above will drastically help your mp pool during the long run, you'll notice the difference.
Ranged Attack Jobs
Snapshot: I'm going to start off with this b/c it is an absolute necessity for any ranged job to have a good snapshot set. Snapshot is essentially the ranged version of haste, it reduces your aiming delay which really adds up quick and doesn't reduce TP per hit. Melee's would jump at the chance to add extra haste and as of now there is no known cap to snapshot which is pretty crazy. To give you an idea of the difference, a Cor with 0% snapshot gear can reduce their shot delay by 45% fully geared in snapshot.
Some unknown snapshot pieces for Cor that are very easy to get are Aurore beret (sadly the pink hat is the current best snapshot head for Cor) and Skopos jerkin. The skopos piece will receive a random augment when bought with battle trophies (we all have a ton of these) from the dominion tactician in altepa, grauberg and vunkerl abysseas. Keep exchanging trophies to get the claim guerdon rank 1 piece until you land a good amount of snapshot (can get up to 5 snapshot on it).
Here's how it works in macros, snapshot needs to be equipped BEFORE you start pulling out your weapon to fire. After your weapon is drawn you will switch to your shot gear. So if you're on a console your macros will look like this: Cor preshot: /equip head "aurore beret" /equip body "skopos jerkin" /equip back "navarch's mantle" /equip legs "navarach's culottes +2" /equip hands "commodore's gants +2" /equip waist "impulse belt" /ra <t> /wait 1 /equip head "uk'uxkaj cap" /equip body "iuitl vest" /equip back "libeccio mantle" /equip legs "thurandaut tights" etc etc
(Because of the fact that there's only 6 lines to macro, I'm pretty sure there's a way to make the 6th line activate a 2nd macro but I'd need to check what the command is to make that work).
Cor:
I don't play Cor, but Atty does and b/c of the amount of research we've done to gear her up I've learned the pieces that are must haves.
Commodore's Tricorne +2 - Enhances Winning Streak effect by an additional 6 seconds per merit level & Occasionally (~50%Verification Needed) triggers job-related bonus on rolls without the job present in party. This relic piece is outstanding for rolls with the trial augment on them. With it, your rolls will last an additional 30 seconds each so long as you have winning streak merited 5/5.
Commodore's Frac +2 - Enhances Loaded Deck effect by reducing the failure chance by an additional 10% per merit & Occasionally allows Random Deal to restore two used job abilities (~5% proc rate on each player). - More or less speaks for itself.
Commodore Gants +2 - Enhances Fold by allowing it to clear a second Phantom Roll or Bust 20% of the time per merit level and grants 9% snapshot (beastly). This reminds me I'll be covering snapshot sets in this post as well as this is absolutely necessary on any ranged job. See the beginning section of the "Ranged attack jobs" to see the details. (if you don't have these manibozho gloves are serviceable until you get them, keep in mind the gants +2 have 5% more snapshot than manibozho, simply put, the commodore gants +2 are one of the best pieces in the game).
Commodore Bottes +2 - Enhances Wild Card effect by giving one (invisible) re-roll if the initial roll lands on a 1 or 2. This effectively gives a 1/18 (5.6%) chance each of a 1 or 2 and a 4/18 (22.2%) chance each of 3 through 6. - You could do w/o these but if you're on Cor and have a higher chance to refresh JA's for everyone, why the heck not especially given how cheap forgotten steps are atm.
Navarch's Frac +2 - Adds 1 TP/tick to all level of Tactician's Roll Increases Triple Shot proc rate, not duration. - Definitely get.
Navarch's Gants +2 - Increases Phantom Roll duration by 10% (applied after Winning Streak duration bonus). - A must have.
Navarch's Culottes +2 - Snapshot +6.5% Enhances the Fast Cast potency of Caster's Roll by 10%. - That's a nice chunk of snapshot, a must have if you don't have Natirah Trousers.
Navarch's Mantle - 6.5% snapshot from a back piece, enough said.
Sidenotes - On corsair having a snapshot set is absolutely essential. In delve Corsair functions much more towards support than dmg so keep that in mind, that is Cor's priority inside fracture. Dont' be afraid to pull out your gun and light them up if there's downtime but that is clearly secondary.
Ranger: Ranger is by far the most underrated DD in the entire game due to many people not playing or gearing the job correctly. There's been a stigma against them b/c of this but they have every tool needed to be the heaviest DD on the field. I'm mentioning Rng now b/c we WILL be using Rngs for Ceizak fracture and need them to be top geared. I highly recommend ffxicalculator to assist building your hit build. Using it you should be able to check how to setup your gear to obtain a 4 hit build (4 shots>WS > 3 shots>WS>3 shots>WS). Be sure to include the gun/bow delay and the ammo delay when entering the numbers.
Scout's Beret +2 w/augment - I've been asked a few times before about why Rngs are using this piece and the answer is b/c of the dynamis trial augment. With the Rng base recycle job trait, the scout's beret +2 and recycle merits, you can cap your recycle rate out at 90%. What the Scout's Beret +2 augmented does is anytime recycle procs, you will gain store tp 30 on that shot, that is the equivalent to a static 5 tp gain on every recycle proc. It can proc on every hit of barrage and weapon skills too, and if it is a multi-hit WS like last stand, can proc on both hits. That is by far the highest store tp piece from anything in the game and allows Rng to achieve a 4 hit w/o much challenge. This is absolutely a must have for anyone who plays Rng.
Sylvan Gapette +2 - 5% snapshot, a must have.
Sylvan Caban +2 - The enhancement this gives to velocity shot is a delay reduction equal to 10% snapshot. Since Velocity shot should always be up, this is your pre-shot body and is a great full time piece.
Iuitl Wristbands - You want these as your pre-shot hands just try to get a decent snapshot augment on them. If you're not able to, the manibozho gloves are fine as well at 4% snapshot.
Mustela Brais - Most aren't going to have Nahtirah trousers yet so for Rng this is the best snapshot piece currently on legs.
Impulse Belt - 3% snapshot Kheper Gamashes, Wurrukatte boots or Iuitl Gaiters w/snapshot - I won't list the first 2 as a must have b/c they're difficult to obtain. They both come from Legion and until iuitl gaiters came into play were the only snapshot options for feet. The gaiters can be augmented with snapshot just be prepared to use some stones to do it.
Ocachi Gorget - This comes from Yumcax Naakual, try to get this as your neck piece.
Elanid Belt - STR+5 AGI+7 Ranged Accuracy+7 Ranged Attack+7 Enmity-3. Best TP belt in the game for Rng and Cor. This can be purchased with Meebles points after clearing Meeble Burrows Batallia Downs all the way through with Rank 3 goals.
Sidenotes: Have Drg at level 49 ready as a subjob for events on Rng. High jump eliminates 30% of your current emnity which will save you from faceplanting. The dmg loss from it isn't significant b/c a fully geared Rng will be capped on Racc already w/o any brd or cor buffs and close to cap on Ratk as well so berserk isn't going to make a massive difference atm (not to mention the -def down effect on berserk can get you killed). Also having the AF1 for camouflage helps. Also because Helel posted such a thorough guide on ffxiah.com, I'm linking that here and just covering the most needed pieces on this post. Helel's post -http://www.ffxiah.com/forum/topic/38352/power-rangers-a-guide-to-pewing/
Mnk:
I'm placing the Melee +2 augmented set first as from here on this should be in your inventory if you're coming Mnk to runs from here on. I've been lax on this note and the results speak for themselves. We all want to win so we all need to put in the effort to make sure we're setup to win. The trials are easy, and the melee hose +2 is particularly easy to finish since forgotten journeys are cheap.
Melee hose +2 w/augment - From here on this is a necessity for anyone coming Mnk. If you don't have this, please get it knocked out this week. It's just too valuable for the events we do, adds at extra 15 seconds onto 100 fists and only needs to be worn on activation.
Melee cyclas +2 w/augment - This piece can be a game changer as well by adding 30 seconds onto Formless Strikes if fully merited (and it should be). If you are coming Mnk get this asap as well, it will not go to waste.
-PDT set - Easily overlooked but if you have hate and are taking a beating please equip this set to help the mages. Atm it's very easy to build, you basically can just augment skirmish gear and use that, a twilight torque and black belt.
Tantra Cyclas +2 - Enhances Impetus - Increases Critical Hit Damage by 1% and Accuracy by 2 for each consecutive successful attack. – What this means is this should be your TP body piece ANYTIME Impetus is active. Absolutely nothing will beat it while impetus is up. I want to add that accuracy is extremely important while impetus is up as a single miss will reset the cumulative bonus you are getting from it. Personally I activate aggressor and then impetus. Note that your haste will not be capped if you are using windbuffet or anguinus belt while Tantra cyclas is worn. My preference is to swap to Hurch'lan sash with Tantra Cylas, but twilight belt works fine if you don't have that.
Thaumas coat - Should be your TP body piece anytime impetus is down. If you do not have this, get it. In the meantime use otronif harness or a Fully upgrade Manibozho Jerkin.
Uk'uxkaj cap or Otronif mask - This is optional b/c if you don't have the uk'uxkaj cap you're best off using otronif generally. If you have both and you dont have at least 2%DA on otronif I would full time uk'uxkaj.
Otronif gloves - Full time hand piece
Manibozho brais - If your otronif leg augments aren't hitting at least 1% DA or 1% crit rate I would rank 15 the manibozho's and full time them.
Otronif boots - Full time feet piece, aim for DA or Crit rate augments. If your otronif boots augments aren't hitting at least 1% DA or 1% crit rate I would rank 15 the manibozho's and full time them.
Honed Tathlum - I highly recommend full timing this ammo piece.
Side Notes: Many in our LS are familiar with monk so a lot of this may be redundant. I bring up the gear details b/c sometimes people aren't aware what pieces excel in certain situations and I want all of our DD's maximized. Monk is a pretty straight forward DD job however it also requires that you know when to use JAs and what gear pieces and other JAs to use them with to be successful. If you feel comfortable about your dmg on a DD job I highly recommend using a parser to get an idea of where you stand and what can be tweaked. I can tell you first hand it is hugely beneficial. Impetus should be stacked with either Focus or aggressor, also mnk is one of the only jobs that has extremely useful AF1 gear. Berserk should only be used on certain NMs and it's your responsibility to found out which ones those are so you aren't getting pummeled. It's not fair to the mages to be stuck cure bombing b/c you're using JA's on NMs that dish out heavy physical dmg, can kill runs so something to be aware of. I don't believe I've seen anyone using it in bad situations but I'm throwing it out there for future reference just in case.
